Pamela Friend, Territory Sales Representative in the Northwest has had an almost serendipitous story to how she joined the team. Now a proud team member for more than a decade, learn about Pamela’s journey of how a bump in the road led to a seamless transition of career knowledge and company values.
My story joining the Behr team:
"I wanted to work for a company that valued loyalty, exceptional standards and doing the right thing."
I previously worked part time for The Home Depot and enjoyed learning many DIY skills and growing relationships with their associates and customers.
In 2010, I left The Home Depot and in 2012 my full-time job was going through reduction of workforce, and I lost my job. I had a fresh start, learning new skills, sending out resumes and reconsidering what I wanted to do. After working with my local career development center, I found an opening that said, "Local Paint Company Needing Territory Sales Representatives." After submitting my resume, I found out the hiring company was Behr Paint!
I had my interview with Kevin Call, Regional Sales Manager at the Pennsylvania manufacturing facility. It was exciting to learn about this role, and I felt very comfortable sharing why I was the right person for the job. I wanted to work for a company that valued loyalty, exceptional standards and doing the right thing. To this day, Kevin and I recall back to how I was ready to take charge and run with my territory.
Within a few days of my interview I was hired, and I was blessed with a smooth transition, knowing most of The Home Depot associates, store management and company culture right from day one. So now I'm celebrating 11 years with Behr!
Who has been my most impactful mentor(s)? What is the most valuable lesson they have taught you?
Two of my colleagues, Tim Bescherer, Regional Sales Manager and Jonathan Burger, Territory Sales Representative, have helped me learn that in order to gain respect in my field, I must become an expert about our products and show I have the customer’s best interest in mind. If you have great product knowledge, you'll have the confidence to speak with authority when you're selling or recommending a product. If you're not confident, tell the customer that you'll find out and get back to them. Most importantly, always do the right thing!
